Blencathra dominates the views when you drive on the A66, it’s one of the highlights of the school run for me, checking on how Blencathra is looking from far below. But this route doesn’t take too long, and with these long summer evenings ahead, it’s a good route for after tea. Hall’s Fell Ridge is stunning, offering fantastic views across to Threlkeld Quarry and Clough Head, from Mell Fell all the way into the Lakes. The run back down is fun too, skipping the zig-zags and taking the grassy route back to Threlkeld. That said, the ridge route is not for the faint hearted, and if you aren’t good on ridges, perhaps go up via Scales and enjoy the views from the top.
